BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT RESULTS
Electric motors for electric vehicle traction applications have restrictive requirements regarding torque density and power density which must be as high as possible, power which must be constant over a wide range of speeds and efficiency, reason for which motors having this destination are generally synchronous motors with permanent magnets based on minerals of the rare earth type.
The context of the existing dynamics at the global level practically requires companies to develop electric traction systems as compact as possible, with a power density and efficiency as high as possible and which, preferably, do not use in their composition scarce materials such as rare earth materials.
The objective of the “EMLEV” project, which has been fully achieved, was the creation and testing of the functional prototype of the variable reluctance synchronous motor assisted by permanent ferrite magnets, designed for light electric vehicles.
The “EMLEV” project has as its ultimate goal for ICPE the realization and production of a new, innovative series of variable reluctance synchronous motors assisted by ferrite permanent magnets for light electric vehicles. The innovative solution developed together with the project partners Politehnica University of Bucharest (UPB) and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN), allowed the achievement of the “EMLEV” electric motor, a reliable product with great market potential, especially in the context of the current energy deficit manifested globally but also from the point of view of the existing deficit in terms of the availability of magnets made from elements such as rare earths. Designed to offer a very high efficiency over a wide range of speeds, its characteristics have been obtained by correlating elements such as optimized geometry of the rotor, optimized algorithm for the adjustment range of the electric drive system and the optimization of the operating thermal regime.
