September 2018: The third phase (and also the final stage) of the research project was completed; according to the results obtained from the specific activities of the third stage, we can state that the TERMOCAN prototype was designed, realized and proved to be functional after testing in a test environment close to the real one (TRL 6).
The project “Thermal sensing bra used for breast cancer detection and locating” is a collaborative project, a project with outstanding results obtained by the project partners, ICPE, University Politehnica of Bucureşti and “Iuliu Haţieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Cluj-Napoca.
Through its elite research team, ICPE has successfully achieved using modern technologies such as 3D scanning and printing, the prototypes of thermal sensing bras used for early warning of the breast cancer, for personal use, and the medical device for detecting and locating the position of a possible cancerous nodule.
Also remarkable is the success achieved by the research team from University Politehnica of Bucureşti, which has developed the software for the detection and localization of cancerous nodules.
Last but not least, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Haţieganu” from Cluj-Napoca has made a remarkable contribution by valorising decades of experience in the field of medical imaging and oncology without which the results of this project would not have materialized.
The main objectives of the project have been entirely fulfilled, and the following results were achieved:
- The thermal sensing bra prototype equipped with temperature sensors
- The thermal sensing medical couche prototype equipped with temperature sensors
- Electronic data acquisition and data processing equipment
- Data acquisition software
- Tumour detection software
- Tumour localization software
- The measurement data sheet as a result of testing of functional prototypes
- User manual for each of the two functional prototypes
- Dissemination of results through scientific communications and articles

December 2017: Stage II of the project was finalized; according to the results obtained from the phase II activities obtained by the three partners, we can state the following: The TERMOCAN laboratory model was designed, manufactured and tested from the point of view of its functionality but especially from the point of view of its precision (the accuracy of the measurements obtained corresponds to the imposed requirements). The objectives of stage II are fully met and the stage III of the project can begin: Design, manufacture and testing of prototype model.
Between 19-21 October 2017 at Grand Hotel Napoca, Cluj-Napoca, România, a scientific paper was published and presented at the conference: “The 27th Annual Congress of the Romanian Society for Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology” together with “The 4th National Congress of the Romanian Cancer Societies Federation”; authors of the scientific paper: G. Kacso, G.M. Vasilescu, M. Maricaru, I.F. Hănţila, M.E. Marin and the paper is titled “Medical thermography, an auxiliary procedure for breast cancer detection”.
